The Birth of Kaito Yoshi
This is one of the directions of future English textbooks in Japan.
The girl in this story is called KK. She looks a little like one of my students, a 15-year-old girl who likes drawing. Let's call her "the real KK."
The real KK is interested in English, and she is good at it. She also likes drawing. She has been refusing to go to school for more than a year. There are a lot of kids in Japan like her.
KK likes video games and is very eager to learn new things. Recently she has been watching the Diet debates on television. She is hoping to go to a boarding school next year that has a much freer atmosphere than most Japanese schools. She visited the school a couple of months ago, and was very impressed by it. She liked the fact that the students are welcome in the teachers' room!
I have been having a very interesting time teaching her on Zoom once a week. I will be posting regularly about my lessons with her.
